NSMB Commercial w/ Matsushima Nanako

New Super Mario Brothers (NSMB) is the 2D Mario game that was released for the Nintendo DS a while back. Great game, one of my favorite Mario games ever. Well anyway, the advertisements on television in Japan included this choice commercial starring Matsushima Nanako. For those who don't recognize this Japanese beauty, she is one of Japan's favorite drama actresses -- she got her start in the classic Great Teacher Onizuka where she costarred alongside lead actor Sorimachi Takashi. The two would later marry and start a family together. Matsushima has more recently begun acting again in many roles that utilize her spunk and charming face in conjunction with her older age, e.g. her role as a 20-something older sister in Hana Yori Dango.

In any event, if you still don't get a feel for why this commercial is slightly cooler than the others, it's because -- for fans of Japanese television -- this would be like us seeing a video game commercial starring Jessica Alba or Steve Carell. Not just a pretty face (Alba), but a well-recognized and well-loved face (Carell). It's just fun! :) To see one of your favorite TV celebrities playing Mario!
