Open-mindedness

Courtesy of my friend Rock.

Excellent video. Well worth the 10 minutes. Honestly: if you don't have 10 minutes now, please set aside 10 minutes later tonight, tomorrow, or this weekend.

Even if the video doesn't teach you anything new, it's still an invaluable resource thanks to its politeness, brevity, and easy-to-understand vocabulary. It's a must-have for anyone who debates frequently, not only because it will serve as invaluable resource to you when you are trying to courteously point out to the other person in what manner he is being callous towards you or close-minded towards the debate, but because it will also reflect back your own close-mindedness and prejudices upon you. It will serve as a handy compass: because just as the video presenter points out, whenever a close-minded person accuses someone else of being close-minded, both parties feel that the other party is the one who is really being close-minded, and without calm and proper evaluation of your situation, you have no way of knowing whether that person is the person you're debating with or whether it is in fact you.
