The Worst Christmas Ever

Imagine waking up on Christmas Day to discover this inside a thinly-wrapped bit of wrapping paper. Expecting it to be a Christmas card or some cheap gift you don't really want, you discover instead that it's a huge punch to your stomach. You had been eyeing the presents under the tree hungrily for a Wii, hoping against all hope that your parents had managed to find one for you. There had been a few boxes large enough to be a Wii, even shaped the same shape as a Wii box might be, but no, they had been a DVD player for your sister, a boombox for your little brother, and a cosmetic set your dad got for your mom because he didn't know what else to get her for Christmas. This was one of the few things left under the tree, and even though your hope for a Wii had already been dwindling, you were still hanging on to that last thread, that last fibre of hope. Maybe the Wii was hidden somewhere and your family was waiting to yell "SURPRISE!" and hand it over to you. Maybe. You didn't think so, but maybe. You hoped. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. But no. All those hopes had been dashed now -- thrown like so much crinkled wrapping paper into the garbage without so much as a second thought.

"Happy Holidays!"

You can read more about the worst Christmas ever here. I feel really bad for all the kids whose Christmases will be shattered seven days from now. All the people who keep nastily saying, "If your parents really loved you and/or were smarter, they'd have gotten you a Wii by now" are beginning to piss me off. As somebody who has been eyeing a Wii (for serious purchase) since this summer, and who officially declared his search for a Wii in late October, I have to say that I've only seen Wiis with my own two eyes three times (including my purchase day) since August 2007, and I only found them once since late October (my purchase day, the day right before Thanksgiving break, so ... a Tuesday in late November).
